Roger Waters announced on Wednesday that he’ll be debuting a musical tribute to his hero Vladimir Putin during an upcoming concert on his This Is Not A Drill tour.
The song in question, Putin On The Ritz, is a reworked version of the Irvin Berlin classic Puttin’ On The Ritz.
“Roger sees a lot of himself in Vladimir Putin,” said one of Waters’ four ex-wives. “They both have high opinions of themselves, and they both enjoy riding shirtless on horses during fleet week.”
While Roger Waters has proven to be incapable of creating a decent song without the help of his Pink Floyd bandmates David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason, his longtime manager Simon Clegg says the occasional half-witted political belch keeps his client on CNN’s speed dial.
“Since no one cares about his brittle attempts at a solo career, Roger realizes the best way to maintain an air of relevance is to drool out the occasional political diatribe,” Clegg told the Bucklesberry Gazette. “Whenever a news outlet needs an outlandish quote to generate clicks, Roger is perfectly obliged to talk himself up his own backside.”
Rehearsal footage of Putin On The Ritz leaked to YouTube earlier this week captured the first verse of Waters’ tribute to the Russian leader:
If you’re blue, and you don’t know where to go to
Why don’t you go where fascism sits? Putin’ on the ritz
A vinyl 45-rpm single of Waters’ Putin on The Ritz is set to be released on November 1, 2022. The b-side – a cover of Carole King’s You’ve Got A Friend – is Waters’ tribute to Idi Amin.
